Test Apply as an Applicant

We recommend testing your workflow by applying to your opening as a test applicant. This enables you and your team to determine what issues may be present for applicants, as well as to give you a glimpse of how the user interface works, which will assist your team with troubleshooting.

Test Apply for a Job

Applying for your job opening you've created will give insight and first-hand knowledge of what your incoming applicants encounter as they enter your funnels. 

We recommend you applying as a test applicant per each opening you create to test the functionality of your workflow. The following steps will show you how to apply using the application form, even if you are using an alternative External Application Form (we recommend you test apply your External Application Form separately).

  1. Login to your Fountain account and the Openings window will be displayed.
  2. Select the three dots icon located on the left side of an Opening in the openings table, and select View Job from the dropdown menu.

    The form will open.


  3. Apply to the job opening as a test applicant on this form.

One-Time Temporary Test

The following method is a quick and easy way to view the applicant's experience in a single stage. You can click through and complete the application, just as a real applicant does; however, the applicant profile WILL NOT be saved and available in the Applicant Table.


This test applicant will only exist for 2 hours. If you have any stage emails that are set up to fire within 2 hours, the test applicant will receive them.

  1. Select the Opening you want to Test Apply to from the Openings table.
  2. Choose the stage you want to test.
  3. Click Preview, located on the bottom right corner of the stage. It will route you to the stage of the application you just selected in the previous step.

Details to Consider when Testing your Workflow

  • Review each stage name and header. They should be brief, clear, and informative.
  • Proofread your content and keep it short.
  • Ensure rules are working properly: test every option and delay.
  • Set the Stage Messages and time them appropriately. See how long it takes to complete a single stage, and set the timer accordingly, so your applicants don't get a bunch of emails back to back.
  • Test apply from mobile devices. Many applicants apply on their phones so make sure your content looks good on desktop, as well as mobile.
