Q: Why am I not getting 5s?
Q: Why am I not getting 5s?
Anna scores strictly to maintain high standards, but 5s should still appear occasionally for strong candidates. If you're not seeing any 5s:
Review your job qualifications for clarity and specificity
Adjust the wording of qualifications or questions
Ensure questions allow candidates to demonstrate their strengths

Optimize Your AI Interviewer
Adjust Job Descriptions for Better Results
The job description guides Anna's interview behavior. To get better results, add context about what you want to hear in the job description, not in the question itself.
Example:
❌ Question: "Tell me about your experience with emotional therapy techniques like CBT and DBT"
✅ Question: "Tell me about your experience with emotional therapy techniques"
✅ Job Description: "Must have experience with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)"
This allows Anna to evaluate responses against specific criteria without giving away the expected answer.
Fine-tune Qualifications
Use precise language to get the desired result. For example:
"Must have 3 years of experience" = Candidates without 3 years will score lower
"Preferred: 3 years of experience" = Candidates without 3 years won't be heavily penalized
Mark critical qualifications:
Click the star icon next to qualifications that are absolutely essential for the role. Anna will weight these more heavily in scoring.
Align description and qualifications:
Ensure your job description and qualifications are aligned. If you mention something as important in the job description but remove it from qualifications, candidates may still be scored on it.
Control Follow-up Questions
Default behavior:
Anna asks follow-up questions when candidates give short or unclear answers (mimics human interviewer behavior).
To disable follow-ups:
Add this to your AI interviewer instructions:
"IMPORTANT: ONLY ASK THE SPECIFIED QUESTIONS AND DO NOT ASK ANY CLARIFYING OR FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS"
Trade-offs:
With follow-ups (default): Longer interviews, more detailed information, better assessment
Without follow-ups: Shorter interviews, less comprehensive information, faster completion
Manage Candidate Reapplication
Reapply Policy
AI Recruiter tracks candidates by phone number. When a candidate with the same phone number applies again:
If still in AI Interview stage:
Candidate sees a "Continue your interview" button
They pick up where they left off
If moved past AI Interview stage:
Candidate won't see the continue button
Previous interview notes are appended to their profile
Configure Reapply Settings
Navigate to AI Recruiter Organization Settings to configure the reapply policy.
Reapply period options:
Never (single application only)
After 7 days
After 15 days
After 30 days (default)
After 60 days
After 90 days
This setting controls how soon candidates can take another AI interview after completing one.
Example: If set to "After 30 days" and a candidate completed an interview yesterday, they cannot interview again for another 30 days.
Troubleshoot Common Issues
Candidate Can't Complete Interview Due to Technical Issues
Problem: Candidate experienced call drop or technical difficulty and received a low score on incomplete interview.
Solution:
Navigate to the AI Interview stage in the workflow
Click Manage Integration
Find and delete the candidate's incomplete interview
Manually move the candidate to the stage before AI Interview
Move them forward to the AI Interview stage again
Candidate can now attempt to retake the interview
Prevention:
Always use Partner Status = Completed in your move rules to prevent automatic moves on incomplete interviews.
Candidate Says Anna Skipped Questions
Problem: Candidate claims Anna didn't ask all the questions or accepted non-answers.
Anna's behavior:
If a candidate says "I've answered this question" or gives a non-responsive answer, Anna will:
Try to rephrase the question and ask again
If candidate still doesn't answer, move on (the score will reflect the missing answer)
This mimics human interviewer behavior—a human interviewer wouldn't force a candidate to answer, but would note the lack of response.
Anna won't:
Aggressively demand answers
Repeatedly ask the exact same question
Skip questions entirely without attempting to get an answer
Low Interview Completion Rates
Possible causes and solutions:
Language barriers:
Consider offering multi-language interviews (e.g., English + Spanish)
Check if your target market speaks a language AI Recruiter supports
Interview too long:
Aim for 7-8 questions maximum (~5 minutes)
Remove yes/no questions that should be in earlier stages
Candidate discomfort with AI:
Offer alternative interview options (video interview with human recruiter)
Add clear stage portal instructions explaining what to expect
Technical issues:
Ensure candidates know they can call back if disconnected
Add reassurance in stage portal instructions
Address Language Barriers
AI Recruiter supports multiple interview languages. For the complete list of supported languages, contact Fountain support.
Translation capability:
Interviews conducted in languages other than English are automatically translated to English for recruiters (if recruiter user settings are in English).
For roles requiring English proficiency:
Use multi-language option (e.g., English + Spanish) to:
Validate English requirement with initial questions in English
Allow candidates to answer detailed questions in their preferred language
Eliminate language bias while meeting job requirements
Prevent and Detect Cheating
Current Capabilities
Un-natural pause detection:
Flags candidates with "Possible cheating risks"
Triggered by 3+ pauses of 5+ seconds
Opt-in feature (must be enabled by Fountain support)
Fullscreen mode:
Prevents candidates from accessing other windows during interview
Desktop only (not available on mobile)
Video recording:
Records candidate during interview
Requires desktop + webcam
Candidates are prompted for permission before starting
AI Assistant Detection
Current limitation:
There is no technical way to detect or prevent candidates from using AI voice assistants (Siri, ChatGPT Voice) during phone interviews.
Recommended approach - Deterrence:
Add this language to your AI Interviewer Instructions:
"The use of AI voice assistants like Siri and ChatGPT will result in automatic elimination from consideration for this role."
While not a technical prevention, clear communication of consequences can deter candidates from using these tools.
