Always Free. Pay Only for Outcomes.
Cue is available to everyone on your team at no cost for help, guidance, and support. We believe you should only pay for results—not conversations. That’s why credits are only deducted when Cue successfully completes real work on your behalf — like running an analysis, updating records, or generating a report.
The core promise
✅ Ask questions freely | Guidance, how-to help, and explanations are always free |
✅ Explore without fear | Iterating, refining, and changing direction costs nothing |
✅ Pay only for outcomes | Credits are consumed only when Cue successfully completes real work |
✅ No surprises | Fixed prices per outcome type, visible in real time |
✅ No charges for failures | If Cue doesn’t complete a task, it costs nothing |
How Credits Work
Cue uses an outcome-based pricing model — you pay for what gets done, not for how long it takes or how many steps are involved.
What’s always free
Asking “how do I…” or “what does this mean?”
Getting explanations, guidance, and recommendations
Exploring options and iterating on your approach
Any attempt that doesn’t complete successfully
What uses credits
Credits are consumed when Cue successfully completes a meaningful action — reading and analyzing your account data, creating or updating entities, running bulk operations, generating documents, and more.
A single Cue conversation can complete one or several tasks. Credits are deducted per task, once it’s done.
Credit Usage Example
Investigating a spike in rejections may complete two tasks — a diagnostic (6 credits) and a strategic plan (20 credits) — totaling 26 credits. You can always review the full breakdown in your credit history.

Credits per Task Notes
Support & Guidance is always free. Questions, explanations, and guidance never consume credits, regardless of how long the conversation runs.
You're only charged for successful outcomes. If Cue attempts a task and doesn't complete it, no credits are deducted.
Data volume may affect cost. For data and analysis tasks, credit usage may vary based on the number of records Cue processes — the more data analyzed, the higher the usage within the stated range.
Bulk operations are priced per operation, not per record. Whether Cue updates 10 or 10,000 entities, the credit cost is the same.
A single conversation can complete multiple tasks. Credits are deducted per completed task, so a conversation that produces several outcomes will reflect each separately in your credit history.
Credit Packs & Pricing
Credit packs are sold in tiers so you can match your purchase to your expected usage. Current pack sizes, per-credit rate, and total prices are shown on the purchase screen in Settings → Credit and Billing → Buy credits.
Pack | Best for |
Starter | Trying Cue's paid outcomes on a small number of tasks |
Professional | Regular use across a team |
Business | High-volume use across multiple products or locations |
Custom | Larger credit packages with personalized pricing, volume discounts, and annual billing |
Each pack shows its credit amount, per-credit rate, and total price at the point of purchase, along with an estimate of how many Cue messages it covers. For step-by-step purchase instructions, see Set Up Cue Credit and Billing.
Credit Expiration
Credits are typically valid for 12 months. Custom packages may have different terms.
Access & Permissions
While Cue’s free support is available to everyone, the consumption of credits and the management of billing are governed by specific permissions. To configure these settings, navigate to Settings → Roles & Permissions and follow the same process used for other Fountain permissions.
Permission | What it allows | Default |
Free support | Ask questions, get guidance, and explore options without using credits | All users |
Consume credits | Use Cue’s advanced capabilities and consume account credits | All users by default; configurable by role |
Manage credits | Add payment methods and purchase credit packs | Admins only by default; configurable by role |
View credit history | View usage and billing history without managing payment methods | Admins only by default; configurable by role |
Cue Access Controls
Cue strictly respects Fountain’s existing access controls. Permissions are additive, not overriding. For example, if a user has read-only access to a specific product in Fountain, they can use Cue to query that data, but they cannot use Cue to modify it, regardless of their credit or billing permissions.
Manage Your Credits
Credit and billing settings live in Settings → Credit and Billing, organized into four pages:
Page | What it covers |
Overview | Current balance, credit purchases, auto-recharge, overage settings, billing notifications, invoices, and credit usage |
Cue Analytics | Usage trends, time saved, and how your team uses Cue |
Credit audit log | A filterable audit trail of every credit-consuming action |
Buy credits | Credit pack selection and purchase |
For step-by-step instructions on purchasing credits, setting up auto-recharge, configuring overages, and managing notifications, see Manage Cue Credit and Billing.
Credit Usage Tracking
Every Cue outcome is logged, so you can always see what Cue did and what it cost. Each entry records the outcome category, a plain-language description of the work, who ran it, when, and how many credits it consumed.
Two views cover this: Credits usage on the Overview page for the detailed record, and the Credit audit log page for a condensed trail filterable by user and date. See Manage Cue Credit and Billing for how to read and filter them.
Use Cue Without Credits
Cue runs in Light version when no credits are available to spend — either because your balance is exhausted and billing overages are off or your overage limit is reached, or because your role is configured not to consume credits. In this state Cue answers questions but does not take action. A Light version badge appears at the top of the Cue workspace.
You can still ask Cue about how Fountain works, what a metric means, or how to complete a task. If you ask it to perform an action, it declines, explains that the action requires available credits, and provides manual steps so you can complete the task yourself.
Add to Credit Balance
To restore full Cue functionality, add credits from Settings → Credit and Billing → Buy credits. See Manage Cue Credit and Billing for the purchase steps.

What happens if I run out of credits mid-conversation?
What happens if I run out of credits mid-conversation?
Behavior depends on your Allow billing overages setting. With overages on, paid features continue up to your Maximum overage limit, and the overage appears next to your current balance on the Overview page. With overages off, paid actions pause until credits are added. Free support — questions, guidance, and explanations — remains available either way.
