Map Non-Integrated Application Channels in Source

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Track applicants from job boards and sourcing channels outside of Source's direct integrations by mapping their UTM sources to named channels.

What Are Non-Integrated Channels?

Source integrates directly with job boards like Indeed, Joveo, Talroo, ZipRecruiter, and Boost. For these channels, Source can post jobs, track spend, and control campaigns automatically.

Many organizations also post to other job boards — such as LinkedIn, Google Jobs, or regional job sites — directly on those platforms. Applicants from these sources arrive in Fountain with a UTM source value (for example, "linkedin" or "google") attached to their application, but Source has no direct connection to those platforms.

Without mapping, these applicants group under Other in your campaign reporting, making it difficult to compare performance across channels or understand CPA for those sources.

Non-integrated channel mapping lets you assign UTM source values to named channels so that applicants are correctly attributed in Source reporting.

How Non-Integrated Channel Mapping Works

When you map a UTM source to a channel:

  • Applicants with that UTM source value are attributed to the named channel in Source reporting

  • Their metrics (applicants, duration, hires) appear on the Opening Details page under the channel name instead of under Other

  • Mapping changes apply immediately and reclassify historical data automatically with no backfill required

  • The channel appears in the Non-integrated channels table on the Channel Enablement settings page

What is not included: Non-integrated channels do not have spend data automatically ingested from the job board. You can manually enter a budget on the channel's Edit Campaign modal to track estimated spend and calculate CPA.

Changes to UTM source mapping

If you change a UTM source's mapping from one channel to another, only new applicants will be attributed to the new channel. Existing historical applications remain attributed to the previously mapped channel.

Set Up a Non-Integrated Channel

Admins and Account Managers can add and manage non-integrated channel mappings. Standard Users can view channel reporting but cannot edit mappings.

Map a UTM source to a channel

  1. In Source, click Settings in the left navigation menu.

  2. Click the Channel Enablement tab.

  3. In the Unmapped UTM sources section at the bottom of the page, review the UTM sources detected from your applicant traffic. Each pill shows the UTM source name and applicant count.

  4. Click + Add Channel / Map UTM Sources in the upper right of the Non-integrated channels section.

  5. In the Configure channel mapping modal, use the Channel dropdown to select the channel you want to map to.

The dropdown includes a list of commonly recognized job boards and sourcing channels. If your channel is not listed, check Create custom channel and enter a name.

  6. Under UTM sources, click the dropdown and select the UTM source values you want to attribute to this channel. Each option shows the source name and applicant count.

You can select multiple UTM sources for the same channel. For example, if candidates from LinkedIn arrive under both "linkedin" and "LinkedIn" as separate UTM values, you can map both to the same LinkedIn channel.

  7. Click Save.

A success message confirms the mapping. The channel now appears in the Non-integrated channels table, and applicants are attributed accordingly in reporting.

Create a Custom Channel

If the job board or sourcing channel you use is not in the standard channel list, you can create a custom channel.

  1. Click + Add Channel / Map UTM Sources in the upper right of the Non-integrated channels section.

  2. Check the Create custom channel checkbox.

  3. Enter a name for the channel.

  4. Select the UTM sources to map to this channel.

  5. Click Save.

Change a channel name

Custom channel names cannot be edited after creation. If you need to rename a custom channel, create a new channel with the correct name and remap the UTM sources to it. Remapping will apply to new applicants only so historical applicants will retain attribution to the original channel.

View and Edit Non-Integrated Channels

After mapping, your configured channels appear in the Non-integrated channels table on the Channel Enablement page.

Edit a Channel Mapping

To update the UTM sources assigned to an existing channel:

  1. In the Non-integrated channels table, click Manage next to the channel.

  2. In the Configure channel mapping modal, update the channel or UTM sources as needed.

  3. Click Save.

Delete a Channel

To remove a non-integrated channel, click the delete icon next to the channel in the Non-integrated channels table.

A channel cannot be deleted if it has active UTM source mappings. Remove or reassign all UTM sources from the channel before deleting it.

Add a Budget to a Non-Integrated Channel

Because Source does not ingest spend data directly from non-integrated job boards, spend is not tracked automatically. You can manually enter a budget for a non-integrated channel campaign to calculate estimated CPA and track spend against your hiring goal.

Add or edit a budget for a non-integrated channel

  1. Go to Source > Dashboard and click on the opening you want to manage.

  2. On the Opening details page, locate the non-integrated channel under Ongoing Campaigns.

  3. Click +Add under the Spend column or click the pencil (edit) icon on the right side of the channel row.

  4. In the Edit Campaign modal, enter values for:

    • Budget – The total amount allocated to this channel for the hiring goal period

    • Target cost per applicant – Your target CPA for this channel (optional)

    • Target applicants – Auto-calculated based on hiring goal and conversion rate (optional)

    • Predicted conversion rate – Your expected Apply-to-Hire conversion rate (optional)

    • Target hires – The number of hires you expect from this channel (optional)

  5. Click Update campaign.

  6. In the Confirm budget change dialog, click Yes, update to confirm.

After saving, the channel's Spend column displays the estimated spend with a tilde prefix (e.g., ~$100 / $300). The tilde indicates that spend for non-integrated channels is estimated — Source does not receive actual billing data from these platforms. CPA is calculated based on the estimated spend and the applicants attributed to the channel.

Confirm actual spend
To see actual spend for a non-integrated channel, log into the job board platform directly. The spend displayed in Source is based on the budget you entered and is used to estimate CPA and track progress against your hiring goal.

View Non-Integrated Channel Performance

Once mapped, a non-integrated channel appears as a named row in the Ongoing Campaigns section of the Opening Details page. You can view:

  • Applicants attributed to the channel

  • Duration (based on the active hiring goal period)

  • CPA (if a budget has been set)

  • Hires attributed

Non-integrated channels do not have an on/off toggle, since Source cannot directly pause or control posting on these channels. To pause posting on a non-integrated channel, log into the job board platform directly.

Understand Remapping and Historical Data

Adding a new mapping: When you first map a UTM source to a channel, all historical applicants with that UTM value are immediately attributed to the channel. No backfill is needed.

Changing an existing mapping: If you remap a UTM source from one channel to a different channel, only new applicants (arriving after the change) will be attributed to the new channel. Existing historical applicants retain attribution to the originally mapped channel.

Unmapped sources: Any UTM sources that have not been mapped continue to roll up into Other in reporting until they are assigned to a channel.
