Accurate

Learn how to configure Fountain’s Accurate integration, add an Accurate background check stage to a workflow, and use background check results to move applicants forward.

Third-Party Provider

Please note that the instructions in this article pertain to a third-party provider and as such may not reflect all current settings. Should you have any questions or issues, please contact the third-party provider directly.

Accurate is a background check provider. Fountain’s Accurate integration allows customers to add an Accurate background check stage to a Fountain workflow so applicants can complete background check requirements as part of the hiring process.

The Accurate Accel/Fountain integration supports a bi-directional flow: Fountain sends background check requests to Accurate Accel, and Accurate sends background check status updates and a result URL back to Fountain. This helps recruiters initiate background checks and view results without needing to manually move between systems.

Get an Accurate Account

To use the Accurate integration in Fountain, you’ll need an account with Accurate.

  1. Reach out to Accurate to create an account and purchase or enable the background check package(s) you plan to use.

  2. Confirm with Accurate that your account is on AccurateAccel. Fountain’s current native Accurate integration supports AccurateAccel.

  3. Ask Accurate for the credentials you’ll need to connect Accurate to Fountain, including:

    • API Secret

    • Client ID

  4. Confirm that your Accurate Accel account build is complete. Packages and users must be configured in Accurate Accel before the integration setup can be completed in Fountain.

  5. Confirm the exact background check package names you plan to use in Fountain.

  6. Ask Accurate for the list of users configured on your Accurate Accel account. Accurate may use this user list during setup and authentication.

If you already have an Accurate account and credentials, continue to the next section.

Set up the Accurate Integration in Fountain

Some integrations must be enabled for your Fountain account before you can connect them.

  1. Reach out to your Fountain Customer Success team to confirm Accurate is enabled for your account.

  2. In Fountain, go to Company Settings → Integrations → Screening.

  3. Find Accurate and click Connect.

  4. Enter the credentials provided by Accurate:

    • API Secret

    • Client ID

  5. Enter the Accurate package names provided by your Accurate Integration Support Specialist.

  6. Optional: configure Pass result key and Fail result key if your Accurate account returns custom result values.

    • These fields can be left blank if Accurate returns PASS and FAIL for positive and negative results.

    • If Accurate returns different values, enter the exact values that should map to pass or fail outcomes.

    • Example:

      • PASS = MEETS REQUIREMENTS

      • FAIL = DOES NOT MEET REQUIREMENTS

  7. Click Save Changes.

Credentials warning

Please ensure you enter the correct Accurate credentials. Incorrect values can prevent the integration from connecting properly or prevent background check requests from being sent to Accurate.

Add the Accurate Stage to a Workflow

Once connected, you can add an Accurate background check stage to an Opening’s workflow.

  1. Open the Opening and go to the Workflow editor.

  2. Click Add stage.

  3. Select Create a new stage.

  4. Name your stage.

  5. From the Stage Type dropdown, select Background Check with Accurate.

  6. Choose where you want to insert the stage in the workflow.

  7. Click Add Stage.

  8. In the stage settings, select the Accurate background check package you want to use.

Package selection is configured at the workflow stage level. If you do not see the package you need, confirm with Accurate that the package is active on your Accurate Accel account and confirm that the package name has been added correctly in Fountain.

What applicants experience

Applicant experience depends on the background check package and how Accurate is configured for your account. In general:

  • When an applicant reaches the Background Check with Accurate stage, Fountain collects the required information for the background check.

  • Fountain sends the applicant’s information to Accurate. The request commonly includes required candidate details like first name, last name, and email address, plus order details such as the selected package and job location.

  • Accurate may contact the applicant to complete missing information, disclosures, and authorization forms, depending on the workflow and package configuration.

  • Accurate processes the background check.

  • When Accurate returns a result, Fountain updates the applicant’s background check status and provides a View Check option that links to the Accurate result URL. Users may need Accurate login credentials to access the result.

  • The applicant can then be moved through the workflow based on the rules configured on the stage.

PII is not passed to Fountain

Personally identifiable information from Accurate is not returned to Fountain through this integration.

Accurate Stage Rules

Stage rules determine what happens after Accurate returns a background check result.

  1. In the Background Check with Accurate stage, add a rule based on Background Check Status.

  2. Choose the next stage the applicant should move to based on the outcome, such as clear, failed, or another status used by your Accurate account.

  3. Save the rule.

Best Practice: Confirm result values before creating rules
Accurate result values can vary by account configuration. Before building rules, confirm the exact result values your Accurate account sends back to Fountain.

Common Accurate status updates during the ordering cycle may include:

  • In Process

  • On Hold

  • Approved

  • Rejected

Accurate may also send order result values such as PENDING or MEETS REQUIREMENTS, depending on your account setup. Component-level status updates are not available through this integration; the background investigation result is posted back to Fountain when the full package is complete.

AccurateAccel vs. AccurateAce

Accurate has multiple platform versions. Fountain’s current native Accurate integration is built for AccurateAccel.

If your organization uses AccurateAce, you may need to work with Accurate to migrate to AccurateAccel before using Fountain’s current Accurate integration. Contact Accurate directly to confirm your account’s platform version and migration options.

Troubleshooting

If Accurate is not available or background checks are not processing as expected:

  • Confirm Accurate is enabled for your Fountain account.

  • Confirm your Accurate account is on AccurateAccel.

  • Confirm the Accurate Accel account build is complete before attempting to complete the Fountain setup.

  • Confirm the API Secret and Client ID were entered correctly.

  • Confirm the selected package is active in Accurate.

  • Confirm the package name in Fountain exactly matches the package information provided by Accurate.

  • Confirm the stage rules use the exact status or result values returned by Accurate.

  • Confirm the applicant has the required candidate information, such as first name, last name, email address, and job location details.

  • If testing in a lower environment, use test candidate information only. Accurate’s UAT environment may return generic or limited result data by design.

  • Batch ordering is not supported.

  • Contact Accurate for questions about Accurate account setup, packages, credentials, or result values.

  • Contact your Fountain Customer Success team if the integration does not appear in Fountain or if the stage cannot be added to a workflow.
