Find the delivery, open, click, and unsubscribe figures for a campaign, and understand what each one counts.
What You See Depends on the Channel
Email and SMS campaigns report different things, because open and click tracking only exist for email. The difference is structural rather than cosmetic: an SMS campaign has one fewer tab and a different set of tiles and columns. Check the badge beside the campaign name to see which you are looking at.
Email Campaigns
Five tiles: Delivery rate, Open rate, Click rate, Bounce rate, and Unsubscribe rate. Each shows the rate with the underlying count beneath it, so a 66% open rate reads as "2 opens" alongside it.
Three tabs: Overview, Message performance, and Click performance.
SMS Campaigns
Three tiles: Messages sent, Delivery rate, and Unsubscribe rate. Messages sent is a plain count rather than a rate, and it has no equivalent on an email campaign.
Two tabs: Overview and Message performance. There is no Click performance tab, because SMS messages are not click-tracked.
Messages Sent Can Exceed Recipients
On an SMS campaign, the Messages sent tile and the Recipients figure on Message performance count different things and will not always match. Recipients counts people; messages sent counts what went out to them.
What Each Metric Counts
Recipients are the talent the message was sent to. This is lower than audience size, because ineligible contacts are not recipients.
Messages sent is the total number of messages that went out. SMS campaigns only.
Delivered counts messages accepted by the receiving server or carrier. Delivery rate is delivered as a percentage of sent. This is the one performance figure both channels share.
Opens are email only, and undercounted by design. Open tracking depends on images loading, and many clients block them. Read opens as a trend rather than a headcount.
Clicks are email only. Click rate is the percentage of delivered messages producing a non-unsubscribe link click.
Bounces are email only, and mean the address did not accept the message.
Unsubscribes are contacts who unsubscribed after receiving this campaign. Both channels report this.
Unsubscribe Clicks Are Excluded From Click Rate
Clicks on unsubscribe links do not appear in Click performance and do not contribute to click rate. Unsubscribe activity is reported in its own tile instead.
Read the Overview Tab
Overview shows one row per recipient. Use Search talent to find a specific person, and Columns to change which columns appear.
On an email campaign the default columns are Talent, Sent, Delivered, Opens, Clicks, and Last Interaction.
On an SMS campaign the Opens and Clicks columns are absent, leaving Talent, Sent, Delivered, and Last Interaction.
Use this tab to see how one person engaged, or to find out whether a specific contact received anything at all.
Read the Message Performance Tab
Message performance shows one row per message in the sequence, named for its position and subject line, such as "Message 1 - Late Season Hiring!". An SMS message with no subject line is listed by position alone.
On an email campaign the columns are Recipients, Delivered, Delivery rate, Opens, Open rate, Clicks, and Click rate.
On an SMS campaign the columns are Recipients, Sent, Delivered, and Delivery rate. Note that Sent appears here but not on the email version.
Use this tab to find which message in a sequence is working. Click a message name to preview it as a recipient sees it, including its send timing.
Read the Click Performance Tab
Click performance is available on email campaigns only. It shows one row per unique URL in your messages, with Unique clicks and % of unique clicks, so you can see which link drives the response.
A campaign whose messages contain no links shows "0 links" and an empty state. That is expected rather than a reporting fault.
Read the Campaign Header
Above the tabs, each campaign shows its status and channel, then the settings it was created with: Audience, Audience mode, Activated date, End date, Category, Recipient journey, and Created by.
Two of these change how you read the numbers. Audience mode tells you whether the recipient list is still growing: a dynamic campaign keeps adding people who qualify, so its totals climb over time, while a static campaign works from a fixed list. Recipient journey tells you whether recipients drop out on engagement: if it is set to stop after a CTA click or a message open, later messages in the sequence reach fewer people by design, and a declining recipient count down the sequence is expected rather than a problem.
Track Unsubscribes
Pool reports unsubscribe rate both for an individual campaign and across all campaigns, so you can see how your messaging affects your audience over time. Both email and SMS campaigns report it.
When a contact unsubscribes they are unsubscribed globally from your company's marketing messaging, not just from one campaign. This applies to both channels: replying STOP to an SMS has the same effect as clicking unsubscribe in an email. A contact can opt back in later, for example by applying to a job again and agreeing to receive messaging.
Send Cadence Affects How You Read a Sequence
Your account's Messaging Rules setting limits how often a campaign can message the same person, which prevents inbox spam and recipient fatigue. Where that limit is one message per day per campaign, a sequence with two messages scheduled on the same day does not deliver both that day.
The limit applies per campaign rather than across campaigns, so a contact who is in three campaigns can receive three messages on the same day. Check for audience overlap before running campaigns concurrently.
Where Pool Campaign Activity Appears, and Where It Does Not
Pool campaign activity is recorded in Pool. It does not appear on the applicant record in Fountain Hire, which surprises people expecting one timeline per person.
Where it appears. On the campaign's Overview tab, one row per recipient. On the Talent Profile's Campaigns tab, with a full engagement timeline showing when the contact entered and why, and for each message the timestamps for Sent, Delivered, Opened, and Clicked. In Fountain Analytics, as an applicant source in aggregate.
Not on the Hire applicant History tab. A Pool campaign message is not recorded against the applicant record in Hire. Hire's History tab records the hiring process for one application; Pool campaigns are outbound messaging to a person, not to an application, and a person can be in campaigns while holding several applications or none. A recruiter looking at an applicant in Hire cannot see that Pool messaged them. Open the person's Talent Profile in Pool instead.
Not as a source field on the applicant. There is no Pool source field in Hire. Identify Pool-sourced applicants through UTM parameters. Campaign links carry
utm_source=FountainPoolautomatically.Not as a reply. Pool campaigns are one-directional. A recipient cannot reply into anything.
